Lisa Lightner, Special Education Advocate

I’m a Special Education Advocate, parent of a disabled child, and a lobbyist who has testified before state senate committees on issues related to IEPs.

Since 2010, I’ve been helping families understand and navigate the IEP process, because the IEP process is complicated, and parents are often expected to figure it out on their own.

I started doing this professionally because I was once exactly where you are- staring at a stack of confusing paperwork, wondering why my kid wasn’t making progress, and assuming I must be missing something.

And in many cases… parents are. Because you don’t know what you don’t know--and that's ok, because the IEP process is incredibly cumbersome and complex. No one hands us a guidebook when we start this journey, either.

Over the past 16+ years I’ve worked with hundreds of families across the country, helping them organize documentation, understand their rights, and present their child’s needs in a way schools can’t ignore.

From record reviews to explaining your child's evaluations to helping you prepare for or respond to an IEP meeting....you'll get the support you need to make informed decisions and advocate more effectively for your child.

45 minutes

You’ve got a stack of documents, an IEP meeting coming up, and no time (or patience) to figure out what it all actually means.

That’s where I come in.

This package includes everything in the IEP Record Review, a thorough, no-nonsense analysis of your child’s records, followed up with a private 45-minute Zoom session where we walk through it together and talk strategy so you're ready for your next meeting.

What’s included

You save $49 when you schedule the consult and your record review at the same time--$368 if purchased separately.

Deep review of your child’s records.

I review your most recent IEP or proposed IEP, evaluation or re-evaluation report, and most recent progress monitoring report.
FBA and BIP documents are included if they are part of your IEP.

Written IEP Record Review Report

You’ll receive a detailed PDF outlining:

  • Strengths in the current plan

  • Concerns and red flags

  • Missing elements or weak areas

  • Specific recommendations and next steps

45-minute virtual strategy session

We’ll go through the findings together, answer your questions, and build a clear plan for your next steps.

Two follow-up emails

Most families use these for:

  • Last-minute questions before an IEP meeting or communication with the school

  • Sharing the school’s response so I can suggest next steps

This is for you if:

  • You want an experienced advocate reviewing the paperwork before your meeting

  • You want to understand what the documents actually say (and what they leave out)

  • You’re tired of feeling like the least informed person at the IEP table

All consult services are non-refundable for no-shows. Cancellations or rescheduling must be made at least 24 hours in advance, and if the IEP is not received at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled call, the session will be converted to a written report only.
