I’m a Special Education Advocate, parent of a disabled child, and a lobbyist who has testified before state senate committees on issues related to IEPs.
Since 2010, I’ve been helping families understand and navigate the IEP process, because the IEP process is complicated, and parents are often expected to figure it out on their own.
I started doing this professionally because I was once exactly where you are- staring at a stack of confusing paperwork, wondering why my kid wasn’t making progress, and assuming I must be missing something.
And in many cases… parents are. Because you don’t know what you don’t know--and that's ok, because the IEP process is incredibly cumbersome and complex. No one hands us a guidebook when we start this journey, either.
Over the past 16+ years I’ve worked with hundreds of families across the country, helping them organize documentation, understand their rights, and present their child’s needs in a way schools can’t ignore.
From record reviews to explaining your child's evaluations to helping you prepare for or respond to an IEP meeting....you'll get the support you need to make informed decisions and advocate more effectively for your child.
IEP Record Review, Written Report and Follow Up
Have you ever wanted a trained set of eyes on your IEP? Someone to walk you through it, piece by piece, and tell you in plain language exactly what it says about your child?
And then, point out the gaps, make professional recommendations, and even write the email for you to send to you team? That's exactly what this is.
This is my most popular service--and here's why.
An IEP is supposed to pass what they call "a stranger test." That is, any stranger should be able to read it, and instantly know who your child is. However, most parents (and IEP teams, tbh) read IEPs with bias. Of course they do--they know the child. So it's almost impossible to read one without bias, because in your mind, you are thinking about that child while you're reading it.
But, I don't know your child--so you get a set of professional, trained eyes to read your IEP and tell you what it really says, without bias. Your report will tell you exactly what your IEP says about your child, who they are, what the IEP team's "world view" of them is, so to speak. Because what's written on the IEP is all that you can hold a school accountable for--not what you see in the child, outside of the IEP.
I'll tell you what your IEP says as far as who your child is, or who the child is that is described in the IEP. From there, I'll tell you what programs and supports I would expect to see, in an IEP for a child with this description.
Then, I move on to the actual goals and supports--and point out what's missing. Our goal is to get the child in front of us to match the child on paper.
Sometimes you just need a professional to tell you what’s what-- and in terms you can understand. That's what I do.
If you’ve been staring at your child’s IEP wondering if it’s good enough—or why your gut keeps telling you something isn’t right, this review is for you.
I’ll conduct a comprehensive review of your child’s educational records and provide a detailed written report outlining:
-
What’s missing
-
What’s vague, weak, or poorly written
-
What’s solid (yes, it happens!)
-
Red flags to watch for
-
Recommended next steps and possible requests
What I review
-
Current IEP or proposed IEP (drafts for upcoming meetings are fine)
-
Most recent evaluation or re-evaluation report
-
Most recent progress monitoring report
Please limit submissions to three documents total.
What you receive
- A detailed written report (PDF): Clear, actionable feedback explaining what the documents say (and what they don’t!).
- A list of recommendations of what to ask your IEP team for, based on what is in your IEP and what the gaps are.
- A personalized email to send to the school, based on the recommendations.
- One follow-up email: After you contact the school or attend your IEP meeting, you can send one follow-up email with questions or updates.
Turnaround time
Reports are delivered within 48–72 hours after all documents are received (excluding weekends).
This service does not include a Zoom call or phone consultation.
Just the paperwork, and my honest, experienced analysis.
This is a good fit for parents who want to:
-
Understand what’s really in their child’s IEP
-
Get clarity before an upcoming meeting
-
Start building a stronger advocacy strategy
Remember, an IEP should pass the "stranger test." Any stranger should be able to pick up your IEP, read it, and instantly know your child. Many parents are surprised at what their IEP says--and reply to me with "That's not who my child is, at all!" So, let's dig in and see what yours says.
I've read thousands of IEPs over 16 years--learn what yours really says about your child.
