Lisa Lightner, Special Education Advocate

I’m a Special Education Advocate, parent of a disabled child, and a lobbyist who has testified before state senate committees on issues related to IEPs.

Since 2010, I’ve been helping families understand and navigate the IEP process, because the IEP process is complicated, and parents are often expected to figure it out on their own.

I started doing this professionally because I was once exactly where you are- staring at a stack of confusing paperwork, wondering why my kid wasn’t making progress, and assuming I must be missing something.

And in many cases… parents are. Because you don’t know what you don’t know--and that's ok, because the IEP process is incredibly cumbersome and complex. No one hands us a guidebook when we start this journey, either.

Over the past 16+ years I’ve worked with hundreds of families across the country, helping them organize documentation, understand their rights, and present their child’s needs in a way schools can’t ignore.

From record reviews to explaining your child's evaluations to helping you prepare for or respond to an IEP meeting....you'll get the support you need to make informed decisions and advocate more effectively for your child.

IEP Behavior and School Discipline Consultation

$149.00 Online payment

Is your child struggling with behavior at school? Are you dealing with repeated suspensions, calls to pick up your child early, an ineffective behavior plan, or an upcoming manifestation determination hearing?

School behavior and discipline issues can be overwhelming, especially when you're unsure whether your child's IEP is addressing their needs or whether the school is following special education laws.

This consultation is designed to help you understand your child's rights, review concerns about FBAs and BIPs, navigate school discipline and manifestation determination reviews (MDRs), and determine what steps to take next.

Get individualized guidance so you can make informed decisions and advocate for the supports your child needs, before the situation escalates even further.

How it works:

Once I receive your payment, you'll get an email from me within 12-24 hours, asking you a few specific questions about your child and their situation.

Answer those questions and send it back to me and also use the scheduling link to schedule your consultation with me (on Zoom).
